Send Push
NEW DELHI: World number one Iga Swiatek on Saturday secured a 6-2, 7-5 win against Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu to advance to the second round of the rain-hit Olympics tennis tournament.

Swiatek, fresh off her fourth French Open win last month, benefitted from playing under the Court Philippe Chatrier roof.

In the first set, Swiatek had two breaks leading to a comfortable start.

However, she faced a tougher challenge in the second set, having to recover from a break to level at 5-5.

She then took the following two games to clinch the match, with Begu double-faulting to end it.

Swiatek, who only reached the second round in her Olympics debut in Tokyo three years ago, will next face either Diane Parry of France or Argentina's Nadia Podoroska for a spot in the last 16.

Meanwhile, play on the outside courts of the French capital was delayed by three hours due to rain.
