Two Pennsylvania State Police troopers were shot Thursday morning in a developing incident in Susquehanna County , prompting an urgent response from state officials.
The incident occurred along Route 171 near the village of Thomson, about 40 miles north of Scranton, according to state police spokesperson Trooper Logan T Brouse .
Governor Josh Shapiro addressed the shooting while speaking at an event outside Philadelphia.
“About an hour ago in Susquehanna County, two state troopers were shot. Lori and I are praying for those troopers,” Shapiro said, as quoted by AP. “I want you to know I’ve communicated with Col Paris. He is on the scene. It is an active situation and at the conclusion of this event I plan to head there myself.”
Colonel Christopher Paris , who leads the Pennsylvania State Police, is currently at the scene of the shooting.
Authorities have not yet released information about the condition of the troopers or the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Senator Dave McCormick also acknowledged the situation on social media X, offering support for the troopers involved.
“Dina and I are praying for our brave state troopers in Susquehanna County and monitoring the situation closely as more details emerge,” McCormick posted.
The investigation remains ongoing.
