At a celebratory White House event honoring the Los Angeles Dodgers for their World Series victory over the New York Yankees, President Donald Trump took the opportunity to make a pointed jab at Democratic senators.
While recognizing several California officials in attendance, Trump veered into political territory. "We have a couple senators here. I just don't particularly like them, so I won't introduce them," he quipped, prompting laughter and smiles to erupt in the room.
The remark, widely interpreted as a veiled swipe at Democratic Senators Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff , raised eyebrows — especially since representatives for both confirmed to the Hill, they were not actually present at the event.
The Dodgers’ visit included star players like Shohei Ohtani , Clayton Kershaw, and Mookie Betts, along with manager Dave Roberts. It marked a return to traditional White House sports ceremonies, following the earlier reception of the Florida Panthers.
During the Dodgers' White House visit on Monday, Trump also complimented Shohei Ohtani's appearance whilst taking aim at unnamed senators. "He looks like a movie star," said Trump after shaking Ohtani's hand. "He's got a good future, I'm telling you."
Ohtani's performance led the Dodgers to their World Series triumph last season. His individual achievement included becoming the first player in baseball history to accomplish the rare feat of hitting 50 home runs whilst also stealing 50 bases in a single season.
