NEW DELHI: Senior IPS officer Amrit Mohan Prasad, director-general of Sashastra Seema Bal , will hold additional charge as Bureau of Civil Aviation Security chief. Incumbent BCAS DG Zulfiquar Hasan retired on October 31.
"A full time BCAS chief is yet to be finalised. Prasad will hold additional charge," said a senior official.
Aviation industry insiders say they hope a full time BCAS is appointed at the earliest given the spate of Bombay hoaxes being received since early Oct. Hundreds of flights of Indian carriers have been affected by these threats. While authorities have kept diversions to a minimum, flights delays due to threats are affecting airlines' scheduled badly. An aircraft has to be thoroughly checked after it gets a hoax message, causing consequential delays. Govt says it is making multi-pronged efforts to tackle this nuisance.
