NEW DELHI: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann who was admitted to a private hospital in Mohali after showing signs of inflammation in the pulmonary artery , tested positive for leptospirosis on Saturday.
"As suspected at the time of admission for tropical fever , his blood tests for leptospirosis came back positive. The chief minister has already been put on appropriate antibiotics. All clinical features and pathological tests have shown satisfactory improvement, " the Director and Head of Department of Cardiology, Fortis Hospital Mohali , Dr RK Jaswal, told news agency ANI.
“The chief minister had shown signs of significant improvement in his clinical parameters. He has also responded well to the treatment for increase in pulmonary artery pressure,” Jaswal added.
The chief minister experienced elevated pressure in his pulmonary artery, which led to irregular blood pressure readings, the doctor said. “Due to an increase in pressure in CM's pulmonary artery, there was pressure on his heart, leading to irregular blood pressure. Currently, all vitals of the CM are completely stable.” the doctor added.
Mann was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday night, and the state government had referred to his stay as a "regular check-up”.
"CM Mann was admitted to a private hospital for regular check-up. Various tests are being conducted to assess the CM's health. Doctors have found signs of inflammation in an artery of his lungs, which is resulting in pressure on the heart and fluctuations in blood pressure. It needs some more medical investigation and some more blood tests have been done, reports of which are still awaited. In view of this, the doctors have decided to keep Mann under observation for now and will take a call on the basis of the reports on Friday morning," a detailed official statement by the CM's office read earlier on Thursday.
