NEW DELHI: AAP Goa chief Amit Palekar on Sunday praised Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal 's decision to step down, calling it a strong testament to his commitment to transparency and honest governance.
Kejriwal announced on Sunday that he would resign in two days and push for early elections in Delhi. He vowed not to return as CM until the public gave him a "certificate of honesty."

Kejriwal also said he would convene a meeting with AAP MLAs to choose a new leader to take over as chief minister.

"I will become chief minister and Manish Sisodia deputy CM only when people say we are honest," Kejriwal said.

Reacting to this, Palekar expressed his admiration for Kejriwal’s decision on X, formerly Twitter, stating, "Hats off sir @ArvindKejriwal for your decision to step down as Chief Minister. Placing your political future in the hands of the public is a powerful demonstration of your commitment to honest politics."

Palekar said that Kejriwal's move shows his integrity and trust in democracy, and his accountability to the people of Delhi, unlike many politicians who cling to power. He added that Kejriwal’s action puts an end to "politically motivated" attacks by the BJP and underscores his faith in the people’s judgement.

"Your stance reflects a unique form of leadership where accountability to voters takes precedence over holding office. Wish our Goan selfish politicians could take some lessons from you," he added.
