Haryana is set to go to the polls on October 5, 2024, with over 2 crore eligible voters, including 8,821 centurions, ready to exercise their franchise in this high-stakes election.
Schedule
The polling will take place on Saturday across all 90 constituencies from 7 am to 6 pm, with 20,629 established polling booths. The counting of votes will be alongside J&K on October 8. The campaigning concluded in the state on Thursday.
Haryana polls were earlier scheduled for October 1 but later postponed by the Election Commission.
Main parties
Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ), Indian National Congress (INC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) in alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) with the Azad Samaj Party are the key parties in the state.
The BJP is aiming for a third consecutive term in power, focusing on the achievements of its “double-engine” government with PM Modi a central figure in the campaign.
Meanwhile, the Congress, spearheaded by leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Bhupinder Singh Hooda, is striving for a comeback after a decade-long hiatus.
The AAP, contesting independently after failing to secure an alliance with the Congress, ramped up its campaign under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, who claimed the next government in Haryana could not be formed without AAP’s support.

There are 1,031 candidates in the fray, including 101 women, with the highest from Jind being 72. Key figures include chief minister Nayab Singh Saini from BJP, Bhupinder Singh and Vinesh Phogat from Congress, and Dushyant Chautala (JJP), alongside prominent independent candidates like Savitri Jindal and Chitra Sarwara.
Exit polls
Exit polls for the Haryana assembly elections will not be released until 6.30 pm on Saturday, per Election Commission directives. According to Section 126A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, exit polls and their publication are banned from the start of voting until 30 minutes after polling concludes. This law ensures the voting process is free from undue influence and upholds electoral integrity.
