NEW DELHI: BJP Tuesday slammed Mallikarjun Kharge for his remarks that PM Modi cancelled his trip to J&K due to adverse intelligence days before the Pahalgam terror attack , saying that the Congress president could not have made a more irresponsible comment at a time when India-Pakistan tension is rising.
BJP functionaries Ravi Shankar Prasad and Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan said Kharge has joined the "brigade" of his party netas making controversial remarks on the issue of national security , instead of controlling them. "What kind of comments is he making! On the one hand, he says in the (all-party) meeting that they are standing with country, on the other, he is trying to weaken the country," Prasad told reporters.
Pradhan said, "Congress has completely failed in its role as a constructive opposition. Role of Congress has now become that of a ' destructive opposition '. The big question is whether the nation should fight terrorism or the organised lies and rumours of Congress?"
At a public meeting in Ranchi earlier in the day, Kharge alleged that Modi cancelled his visit to J&K for a govt programme visit after "receiving an intelligence report three days before" the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.
"It is a painful and unfortunate remark when people are standing with the country and the govt amid preparation for the nationwide drill," said Prasad. He wrote on X: "One after the other, such statements are being given by Congress netas which are being liked by enemies of the country sitting across the border."
