Chhattisgarh CM Sai unveils ambitious development plan; aims to double state's GSDP by 2029

CHHATISGARH: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnudeo Sai presented the state's development plan at the ninth meeting of the NITI Aayog Governing Council in Delhi on Saturday, prioritising education , human resource development, health and technological advancement.

Chief Minister Sai briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the state’s priorities and ongoing efforts in the aforesaid sectors. He shared the proposed plans for Chhattisgarh’s development, highlighting the state’s role in realising the developed India 2047 goal.

The Chief Minister stated that Chhattisgarh will play a key role in developing India by 2047. Currently, the state’s GSDP stands at Rs 5.05 lakh crore, with a target to increase it to Rs 10 lakh crore in the next five years. Reforms and targeted efforts have been initiated in various sectors to achieve this goal.

The Chief Minister stressed the role of youth in the state’s development, stating that Chhattisgarh is focused on creating a skilled human resource base. Education in Chhattisgarh is being linked with vocational skills and training to equip students with employable skills. The state is also initiating the process of creating a 'One Nation, One Student ID Card' (APAAR ID) for each student, which will digitally store all significant academic information.

He shared plans for better healthcare availability, sustainable development, and the preservation of the state’s culture and traditions. To promote economic empowerment, the state will focus on the production of superfoods and the establishment of natural pharmacies. The processing and branding of local products will be encouraged. Alongside the expansion of artificial intelligence and the IT sector, there will be a focus on developing physical infrastructure like roads and buildings, as well as digital facilities like internet and mobile networks.

Chief Minister appealed for the Centre’s support to improve electricity supply in rural and remote areas. He mentioned that the process for installing solar energy systems on rooftops has been simplified and there is a plan to make 100 villages entirely dependent on renewable energy. Surveys for installing rooftop solar plants on government buildings have been completed, and most government buildings in New Raipur have these plants, contributing to the power grid.

Chief Minister Sai stated that 96% of households in Chhattisgarh will have access to drinking water by March 2026. He emphasized that India’s goal by 2047 should not only be development but also water security. He expressed hope for technical and financial support from the Central Government. Additionally, he called for the establishment of a rainwater conservation research center in Raipur to properly store and use rainwater, which would help mitigate water scarcity and assist farmers.

He noted that mobile medical units have been deployed to improve healthcare services in tribal areas, bringing healthcare to the most remote regions of Chhattisgarh. These mobile units are extending healthcare services to distant areas, providing much-needed facilities to the people.

On land and property issues, the Chief Minister stated that all land records in Chhattisgarh are being digitized. This technology will enhance transparency and control corruption. He explained that this reform will make it easier to resolve land disputes, encouraging investment and development in the state.
