'Bhrashtachar ke bhaijaan': BJP slams Congress over alleged Muda scam

NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday took a jibe at Congress after an FIR was filed against Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah in the Muda scam case and said that they are running "bhrashtachar ke bhaijaan (brother of corruption), media ko dhamki ki dukaan (shop of threatening media), and SC samaj ke governor ka apmaan karne ki dukaan' (shop of insulting SC communities governor) instead of "Mohabbat ki dukan (shop of love)."

Addressing a press conference, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla claimed that after the Muda scam, Congress has acted like a certified "lootera".

"The Congress party, which claims to run a 'Mohabbat Ki Dukaan' (shop of love) and speaks grandly about freedom of the press and speech, when confronted, arrogantly pushed a reporter's microphone away and questioned who the reporter was to ask such questions. This shows that Congress isn't running a 'Mohabbat Ki Dukaan', but rather is a 'bhrashtachar ke bhaijaan, media ko dhamki ki dukaan,' (shop of threatening media) and an 'SC Samaj Ke Governor Ka Apmaan Karne Ki Dukaan' (shop of insulting SC communities governor)," he said.

The BJP spokesperson stated, "Congress is a 'zameen se judi hui' (down to earth) party. Wherever they come into power, they register land in the names of their relatives -- be it National Herald, 'Damad' (Robert Vadra) in Haryana, or the wife in Karnataka. They make their family members the beneficiaries and, hence, it is called a 'Zameen se judi hui' party."

A special court had on Wednesday ordered a Lokayukta police probe against Siddaramaiah in the case. The Lokayukta police later lodged an FIR against the Karnataka chief minister.

He further alleged that the Congress party's approach has shifted to stealing first and then acting with impunity, not just in Karnataka but throughout the entire country.

According to Poonawalla, the Congress party's primary objective had become committing corruption first and then playing the victim card after a court order. He claimed that they would oppose the agencies by any means necessary to prevent them from entering, as they believed that looting was their birthright. Poonawalla also alleged that Congress leaders insulted and verbally abused the Karnataka governor, despite the Governor characterizing the Muda scam as a significant scandal and agreeing to its investigation.

Poonawalla pointed out that despite the High Court's order, the Congress party continues to question the governor's judgment.

Poonawalla further mentioned that the Karnataka Congress government's decision to withdraw the general consent for the CBI reveals a guilty mindset and is a clear attempt to block the CBI to avoid investigation. He questioned the timing of this decision, as the Congress government was formed in Karnataka in May 2023, but they suddenly claimed the CBI was acting vindictively in September 2024
