Taylor Swift is now caught in the crossfire of an ongoing legal battle between Blake Lively and actor-director Justin Baldoni—but according to her team, she has no business being there.
Following reports that Swift was subpoenaed in the lawsuit surrounding the film It Ends With Us, her representatives have come forward to set the record straight. In a strong statement to Entertainment Weekly, Swift’s team condemned Baldoni for using her name to stir public interest, calling it a “tabloid clickbait move.”
Taylor Swift’s role in the film was limited to music licensing, reps clarify
Taylor Swift’s team was quick to shut down any claims of deeper involvement in the controversial film. “Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film,” her reps clarified. The only link, they said, was a single song licensing: her track My Tears Ricochet .
They emphasized that she was busy with her Eras Tour , “travelling around the globe during 2023 and 2024, headlining the biggest tour in history,” and never even had time to watch the movie. “Given that her involvement was licensing a song for the film, which 19 other artists also did, this document subpoena is designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case,” the team added.
The deeper legal feud: From uncomfortable scenes to a war of words
The lawsuit stems from serious allegations made by Lively against Baldoni, related to an alleged uncomfortable filming experience during a hospital scene. Lively has claimed that the actor-director overstepped boundaries on set, while Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios have countersued her, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their PR team, accusing them of orchestrating a smear campaign and attempting to “hijack” the film.
Screenshots presented by Baldoni reportedly show Lively referring to Swift and Reynolds as her “dragons”—a symbolic nod to fierce loyalty—but Swift’s team insists her name is being exploited unfairly.
