NEW DELHI: James Anderson , the former England pacer who has troubled multiple generations of batters, including Sachin Tendulkar , Virat Kohli , and Shubman Gill, recently retired from Test cricket earlier this year. Anderson's love for the game remains evident as he joined the England team as their bowling mentor for their upcoming Test matches.
The 42-year-old, who has played 188 Tests, 194 ODIs, and 19 T20Is, still believes he has some cricket left in him. He feels that his current physical condition and recent bowling performances suggest that he could continue contributing to the game.
"The way that my body feels, the way I have been bowling in recent years, I still feel I could potentially have something to offer on that front," he stated.
Anderson's decision to consider franchise cricket comes after witnessing the ball swinging during The Hundred competition. "I watch The Hundred and see the ball swinging around in the first 20 balls and I think, I can do that, I can still do that. I do not know if that is a viable option, to maybe see if I could do a job in white-ball cricket. Franchise cricket is something I have never done," he said on The Final Word Podcast, as quoted by Wisden.
Anderson could return to T20 cricket after a decade away, as a Major League Cricket ( MLC ) team has shown interest for the 2025 season. He last played white-ball cricket in 2019, and his last T20 match was in the 2014 NatWest Blast final for Lancashire. His last T20 match for England was in 2009 as per PTI.
