Hansi Flick set to sign new Barcelona deal until 2027 after La Liga title win

FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has renewed his contract with the Catalan giants for an extra two years, until June 2027, after a sensational first year at Camp Nou that has taken the club within touching distance of La Liga glory. The 60-year-old German tactician, who agreed a contract until 2026 when he arrived last summer, has extended by a year after repaying the faith shown in him in breathtaking style.

The contract extension is after a major meeting between Flick, his agent Pini Zahavi, and Barcelona president Joan Laporta after a thrilling 4-3 win over Real Madrid on Sunday. Although the deal has already been made, the official announcement will only be made after Barcelona clinches La Liga, a position they are mathematically placed to do, which they can achieve this week.
Historic El Clasico dominance shows an excellent campaignIt has been an extraordinary season for Flick at Barcelona. The German coach has done what only Pep Guardiola had done before him, and that is to win his first four El Clasico against Real Madrid. These wins are emphatic scorelines (0-4, 2-5,3-2, and 4-3) that have thrilled fans and put Barcelona back as dominant over their bitter rivals.

Barcelona has already won the Spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey trophies under Flick’s tutelage this season. The Catalans are therefore on the brink of winning a domestic treble – an achievement that few would have predicted when Flick took charge last summer with the team seven points behind in second place in La Liga with a third of the season to play.

Barcelona is back to the top after a tactical revolutionThe ex Bayern Munich and German national team coach has changed Barcelona by combining the club’s old possession-based game with some German efficiency. Flick’s brave leadership approach has brought new hope to his players, and his attacking ways have made Barcelona games “90 minutes of pure joy” for fans.

“I like short-term deals that can be flexible,” Flick has said previously about his contract preferences. The tactician, who is now 60, has said he doesn’t intend to stay at the top for long and will review his future when the new deal expires in 2027.

Although Flick’s risky but high-reward tactical formation has sometimes caused fans to bite their nails, the results are there. A Barcelona La Liga victory this week would be the best way to end a season that has seen the club reclaim its throne atop Spanish football under the leadership of its new manager.
