Ferrari to unveil new floor in Bahrain Grand Prix to aid Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc

Scuderia Ferrari is said to be working on their initial significant update of the 2025 Formula 1 season in an attempt to bounce back from a turbulent beginning. The team is set to introduce an upgraded floor to the Bahrain Grand Prix this weekend to fix critical performance issues in the SF-25 and give drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc a more stable and competitive car.

Ferrari targets better balance and performance for top drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc

Following three disappointing race weekends and a double disqualification in China under controversy, Ferrari is seeking solutions—and their maiden podium of the season. According to the Italian publication Formula Uno Analisi Tecnica, the upgrade from Ferrari will aim at providing a larger operating window, better balance, and a more efficient floor. This is meant to mitigate problems Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have long struggled with, specifically rear instability and overall grip.

Ferrari’s decision comes at a crucial time. Despite a brief spark in China, where Hamilton secured pole and sprint race victory, the team remains off the pace when compared to front-runners like Red Bull Racing and McLaren. A technical infraction in Shanghai—excessive plank wear—led to both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc being disqualified, stripping the team of valuable points and amplifying the pressure. The disqualifications have also caused Ferrari to add to their ride height, which further impacts performance. The new floor will be a countermeasure to mitigate this compromise and get the SF-25 closer to its design aerodynamic configuration.

Lewis Hamilton shows technical problems; eyes reset in Bahrain

Lewis Hamilton has so far been outpaced by teammate Charles Leclerc. At the Japanese Grand Prix, Hamilton qualified eighth and finished seventh, explaining that his car was losing more than a tenth per lap because of an ‘underperforming component.’

Talking to Sky Sports F1, Hamilton said, “We found something on the car that was underperforming for the last three races so I am hoping when that is fixed, that I will start getting better results.”

Hamilton also said that Ferrari engineers were probing the cause and hoped the problem would be solved with the installation of a ‘new component,’ potentially the new floor.

Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc has managed to extract slightly better results despite Ferrari’s limitations, finishing fourth in Japan and consistently outperforming Hamilton in qualifying. The Monaco native is expected to benefit equally from the upgrade package.

With the limelight squarely on Bahrain's red cars, everyone will be watching to see if the upgrade can bring the lift Ferrari so desperately requires—or if the Scuderia's plight persists into the season's mid-period.
