Beyond The Boundary | Mohammed Shami situation: Who exactly is not telling the truth?

Send Push
On the latest episode of 'Beyond the Boundary' that aired on 15 October, host Chetan Narula was joined by Times of India reporters Arani Basu and Sahil Malhotra as they tried to make sense of the Mohammed Shami injury situation as it has unfolded since November 2023.

On the episode, Basu and Malhotra dived deep into the complexities surrounding Shami ’s fitness and injury status ahead of the New Zealand Test series after it was declared that he has a knee injury.

Initially deemed fit and ready for the New Zealand series, Shami developed knee swelling at the National Cricket Academy, with medical experts suggesting a possible ligament or tendon issue requiring six to eight weeks for recovery.

During the discussion, Shami's age and the physical demands of cricket were also considered as possible contributing factors.

Basu’s report on Shami sparked widespread social media attention, but was validated by the Indian captain Rohit Sharma, despite Shami addressing rumours without denying knee issues.

On a larger picture, concerns linger over his availability for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), crucial for India’s World Test Championship final ambitions.

The discussion also highlighted communication challenges within team management regarding player fitness and emphasised on the need for clear, official announcements from the Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI ).
