After Buchi Babu, Mumbai crash out of Dr Thimmappiah tournament too

Send Push
MUMBAI: Defending champions Mumbai's build-up to their 2024-25 Ranji Trophy campaign hasn't been ideal. After crashing out in the first round of the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Tamil Nadu, the domestic giants have been sent packing at the league stage of the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappiah Memorial Tournament in Bengaluru too. It must be said here, though, that Mumbai fielded a largely young, second-string team in these warm-up tournaments, with most of the regulars likely to be available for the high-profile Irani Cup clash in Lucknow from October 1-5.

On Tuesday, Mumbai drew their match against KSCA Secretary's XI at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, but conceded the first innings lead.

Powered by fine centuries by Jasper EJ (167, 292b, 24x4) and Luvnith Sisodia (187, 262b, 20x4, 6x6), KSCA Secretary's XI replied to Mumbai's 440 with a mammoth total of 531.

Brief Scores: Mumbai 440 (Jay Bista 109, Siddhesh Lad 95, Suryansh Shedge 94, Hardik Tamore 44; Shikhar Shetty 5-111, Abhilash 3-97; Extras 42) & 290-8 (Suryansh Shedge 71, Shashank Attarde not out 47, Atharva Ankolekar 31; Abhilash 3-65) vs KSCA Secretary's XI 531 (Luvnith Sisodia 187, Jasper EJ 167, Vishant Onat 82; Mohd Junaid Khan 3-89, Atharva Ankolekar 3-98) & 100-1 (Vishal Onat not out 51).
