Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Maidaan’, which hit the theatres in April this year, is receiving a decent response after its OTT premiere. The film directed by Amit Sharma, however, didn’t receive the footfall as expected during its theatrical release, making it a flop at the box office.

Director Amit Sharma has finally broken his silence on the film’s box office failure. In a recent interview with DNA, the director stated that he ‘couldn’t find the reason’ behind the film’s failure at the box office. He also added that, however, after its OTT release, he is flooded with messages and emails.

A biographical drama about footballer Syed Abdul Rahim, ‘Maidaan’ featured Ajay Devgn in the lead role. The director also stated that during the theatrical release, not many people watched it, and all those who watched have ‘only praised’ it.

The film reportedly made Rs 200 crore, only recovering Rs 68 crore from the box office. Though the director is unable to pinpoint the reason behind the commercial failure, he shared that he is satisfied with the final product. He also recalled receiving appreciation from people from European countries, and added that many compared it to Hollywood films, which is a big validation.

Starring Ajay Devgn, ‘Maidaan’ also had actors Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, and Rudranil Ghosh in significant roles. ETimes rated the film 4 out of 5 and the review reads, “Maidaan is a must-watch on the big screen for the thrilling experience and outstanding storytelling. It truly emulates the dialogue in the movie, ‘Kismat haathon se nahi, pairon se likhi jati hai,’ as the team puts its best foot forward with the stellar outing! Ajay Devgn shines as Rahim, becoming a larger-than-life figure despite a quiet, understated, dignified demeanour.”
