'The Buckingham Murders', starring Kareena Kapoor and directed by Hansal Mehta, was released earlier this week. As fans and the makers celebrate the release of the mystery thriller, veteran filmmaker Hansal Mehta has hinted at his plans to return with a second instalment, revealing that he has a prequel in mind.

In an interview with Midday, Hansal Mehta was asked whether he had considered a sequel to 'The Buckingham Murders', starring Kareena Kapoor. He responded by noting that the positive feedback on the film was encouraging and hinted at the possibility of a reunion.

Mehta revealed that he already had a prequel in mind, focusing on an origin story for the character Jasmeet, exploring how she became who she is today. When asked if this implied a reunion with Kareena Kapoor and producer Ektaa R Kapoor, Mehta confirmed that they owned the intellectual property rights. He also expressed a desire to collaborate with the actor-producer duo again, sharing that working on the gritty thriller with them was a deeply fulfilling experience.

During the same conversation, filmmaker Hansal Mehta praised Kareena Kapoor, describing her as an instinctive actor who doesn’t take her talent too seriously. Mehta emphasized that while the role was complex, Kareena played it with great sensitivity.

Speaking about the language choice for The Buckingham Murders, which was made in Hinglish, Mehta acknowledged that it was a leap of faith by the makers. He reflected on the potential risk of alienating a section of the audience by staying true to the film's UK setting but explained that the original story, written by Aseem Arora, was based in the UK.

Directed by Hansal Mehta, The Buckingham Murders led by Kareena Kapoor also stars Allen Keith, Ash Tandon, and Ranveer Brar in key roles.
