After a decade in the Bollywood film industry, Bhumi Pednekar is finally set to make her OTT debut with the upcoming series The Royals. Although this comes as a long-awaited move to the digital space, it is not the first time the actress was offered a part in web series before. In her latest interaction, Bhumi revealed that she rejected several OTT projects, before finally saying 'YES' to 'The Royals'.
"I have had the opportunity to read some phenomenal shows that have gone on and become huge successes," Bhumi admitted in a conversation with Hindustan Times, and went on to reveal that she never connected with the projects. "But I never connected with them the way I connected with The Royals," she said.
According to the actress, it was all about finding the right story — and the right genre. "The Royals is a romantic comedy, and rom-com is, hands down, my most favourite genre," she admitted and added, "I don't think we make enough of those anymore,. I grew up reading Mills & Boon novels. That’s also why I love Korean dramas — there’s just so much romance!"
Recalling the moment she came across The Royals, Bhumi said she was recovering from dengue in a hospital when she started reading the script. "I just couldn’t stop reading. That’s when I knew I had found something special."
In the new series, Bhumi portrays a powerful corporate executive who finds herself entangled in the intriguing world of India's erstwhile royalty. Ishaan Khatter will reportedly play her love interest - a charismatic prince.
The series also features a stellar ensemble cast, including Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Chunky Pandey, Vihaan Samat, and Sumukhi Suresh.
