Varanasi: The Banaras Orthodontic Study Group observed World Orthodontic Day at the Orthodontic Seminar Hall, Faculty of Dental Sciences, BHU on Thursday. World Orthodontic Day is celebrated globally on May 15.
The event was attended by orthodontist professor TP Chaturvedi, Dr Vipul Sharma, and orthodontic MDS students. Children undergoing orthodontic treatment and their guardians were made aware of the importance of orthodontics.
"We highlighted the significance of this specialty and organised various activities to motivate and educate patients. The programme aimed to explain the importance of orthodontic treatment to patients. We conveyed that a beautiful smile and proper dental alignment not only boost confidence but also improve oral health. Timely orthodontic treatment makes oral hygiene easier, prevents tooth damage, and aids in the proper development of the jaw," said professor Chaturvedi.
Educational sessions, awareness posters, Q&A sessions and consultations were organised for patients, who participated enthusiastically and learned about the scope and benefits of orthodontic treatment.
"Through the programme, we also highlighted the broad possibilities of orthodontics, such as interceptive treatment, aesthetic improvement, and long-term management of malocclusion," he said, adding that the event demonstrated that orthodontics is not just about aesthetic enhancement but is a crucial medical branch contributing to overall oral and mental health. Dr TP Chaturvedi shed light on crooked teeth and jaw problems and their solutions.
