JAMSHEDPUR: Dreams of Joyee Dutta, a 31-year-old breast cancer survivor, came crashing down when she woke up on Thursday morning to hear that her real-life hero Ratan Naval Tata was no more. Her wish to meet Ratan Tata, who also responded positively, at least once for “saving her life” will remain unfulfilled.

A software engineer, Joyee was diagnosed with cancer five years ago and feels that she is alive and leading a normal life today because of Ratan Tata.

Talking to TOI, Joyee, “My parents were very sad and confused about what to do when doctors in Kolkata confirmed my cancer. They thought all was over but thanks to the hospitals set up by Tatas in Mumbai, Kolkata and Jamshedpur for cancer cure.”

She further said, “After treatment in Tata-run hospitals in Jamshedpur and Kolkata, I have rejoined my job in a software company. Recently, I have tied the knot with my husband, who is in the merchant navy.”

Expressing regret that she would not be meeting Ratan Tata, Joyee said, “I wanted to meet Ratan Tata in person and thank him for the great work he has done for us cancer survivors. I wrote a mail to him in May this year seeking an appointment. In reply, he promised to meet me sometime later but my wish will remain unfulfilled as this great philanthropist left for heavenly abode yesterday.”

She added, “I have tried to meet this great man several times. Once I went to Mumbai to his office but to my bad luck, he was not there at that moment. He came to Jamshedpur in 2021 but I could not meet him here either. So, my wish to thank him could never see the light of the day.”

The cancer survivor also hailed Ratan Tata’s initiatives to open the cancer hospital in Kolkata, where patients from the eastern part of the country are getting super speciality treatment at affordable costs. “I was overjoyed with the caring attitude of the medical staff there,” Joyee added.
