Chandrapur: In what officials described as one of the swiftest wildlife rescues, a leopard was safely saved after getting entangled in a wire fence near the Zero Point Toll Booth along the Samruddhi Expressway on Sunday morning.
Pramod Wade, forest range officer, Butibori, alerted the authorities after getting information about a leopard trapped close to a wildlife underpass. Acting swiftly, the Transit Treatment Centre's rescue team reached the spot and decided to execute a physical rescue without using tranquilisers. Using a catchpole to immobilise the animal's front legs and neck, the team carefully rescued the leopard.
Forest officials said the animal suffered minor injuries and was later transported to the Transit Treatment Centre. The rescue operation was conducted under the guidance of Bharat Singh Hada and supervision of assistant conservator of forests Manoj Dhanvijay, range officer Pramod Wade, and Kundan Hate, former member of the State Wildlife Board.
Forest guards Harish Kinkar, Pratik Ghate, Sameer Nevare, along with veterinarians Dr Rajesh Phulsunge and Dr Siddhant More, and staffers Bandu Mangar, Khemraj Nevare, Vilas Mangar and Ashish Mahale, played key roles in the operation. Officials lauded the seamless coordination and prompt action that ensured the leopard's safe rescue without any major injuries.
