Dibrugarh: Looking to tackle Tinsukia's persistent waterlogging issues, district commissioner Swapneel Paul directed officials to implement immediate measures in ten flood-prone areas of the town, after chairing a high-level meeting on Wednesday.
Jyotinagar, Chaliha Nagar and Bordoloi Nagar, Court Tiniali at Borguri, Raja Ali Road-Thandagarh, Milanpally area, Makum Road, Parbatia Road, Amrit Tamuly Road, VIP Road and West Sripuria are the ten areas which have been identified for urgent intervention.
"Waterlogging has been a long-standing issue. These ten areas require immediate attention to provide relief to the public, before the onset of the monsoon season," said Paul. Officials from the engineering departments presented technical solutions for each of the identified areas, focusing on both short and long-term sustainable solutions.
The meeting was attended by Tinsukia MLA Sanjoy Kishan, Tinsukia municipal board chairman Pulak Chetia and ADC (urban local body) Mirzana Hussain. All ward commissioners of the Tinsukia municipal board were also present, along with town planner Biswajit Bhuyan, PWD roads executive engineer Pratap Hazarika, representatives from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and citizens.
The DC said the action plan for resolving waterlogging issues will be monitored on a monthly basis through physical meetings with all stakeholders under his direct supervision. "Monthly monitoring will ensure accountability and help us track progress on the ground. We need a coordinated approach, involving all departments to effectively address this issue," the DC said.
The meeting concluded with the formation of area-specific teams tasked with implementing and monitoring the progress of interventions in each of the ten waterlogging hotspots. The first progress review meeting has been scheduled for next month.
