Aizawl: Lunglei southern headquarters of Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) or Mizo students' federation will not enforce the blockade of Aizawl-Thenzawl-Lunglei road for a day on Thursday.
The decision was taken at 6pm on Wednesday. They will begin to enforce total bandh from 6am on Friday, giving one day time for the people of the district to be able to stock essential commodities on Thursday.
The MZP has been protesting against the decision of the state govt to divert Rs 45.09 crore from the allocated Rs 90.69 crore for repair of the road to be used for maintenance within the Aizawl city.
A press release issued by the MZP on Wednesday evening said they have decided to impose total bandh after failing to receive any assurances on their demands.
The students began blocking Aizawl-Thenzawl-Lunglei road at Pukpui locality in the northern outskirts of Lunglei town from Monday and also National Highway 54 linking Aizawl and Lunglei via Serchhip and Hnahthial towns at Hrangchalkawn, the southern outskirts of the town, from Tuesday which resulted in hundreds of vehicles stranded.
The MZP activists distributed food to the stranded drivers and passengers on payment while bottled water were also distributed free of costs.
