Guwahati: Government Railway Police apprehended four individuals and seized a substantial quantity of cannabis during a train inspection on Wednesday at the Guwahati railway station.
According to GRP OC Abhishek Bodo, the confiscation occurred while conducting a routine inspection, prompted by intelligence, in the New Delhi Rajdhani Express at Platform No 1. The authorities identified the suspects as Nongthombam Landson Singh (22) from Wankhei Yumlembam Leikei Brahmpur Aribam in Imphal East, Raireikhan Tungshang (25) from Langdang village in Ukhrul district, James Kamei (25) from Namdulong village in Imphal East, and Pukhrambam Kanta Singh (24) from Bishnupur district.
The search yielded 44 packets of cannabis (ganja), totalling 65.5kg. "The four accused had boarded the train from Dimapur Railway Station at 2 am on Wednesday and reached Guwahati at 6.30am," the officer added. He said the miscreants were headed for New Delhi. "Acting on confidential intelligence, the team stationed at the platform intercepted them shortly after the train's arrival, " the OC said. He added, "They will be produced before the court on Thursday. "
