Fundamental rights of women aspirants violated, says AAP

Guwahati: AAP’s state wing on Monday wrote to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) alleging harassment and violation of fundamental rights of women job aspirants in the name of checking at the entrance of exam venues of the Assam Direct Recruitment Exam for Grade III posts held on Sunday.

The development comes after a woman job aspirant alleged that a woman constable had touched her private parts during checking at the entrance of the exam centre in Nalbari district before she entered the examinational hall for the exam on Sunday.

Senior party worker bin the letter wrote: “While the examination was intended to be a gateway to fair opportunity, certain acts of blatant disregard for civil liberties transformed it into a traumatic ordeal for many, particularly women.”

He added that searches at the entrance conducted by general security personnel lacked any semblance of privacy, with women being exposed to humiliation in the very environment that should have safeguarded their rights. “These actions violate basic standards of decency, infringing upon both personal privacy and bodily autonomy,” he said.

Hatibaruah alleged that candidates were subjected to public shaming and mental harassment in many ways just moments before the examination. “Such actions, taking place in full public view, inflicted a psychological trauma and severely undermined the candidates’ capacity to focus on their exam,” he said.

He added that the blatant disrespect for individual dignity during the recruitment examination was not merely an administrative oversight but a systemic failure.

The party urged the NHRC to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into these incidents as “it is essential that the responsible individuals, as well as the structural mechanisms that enabled this mistreatment, are held accountable.”
