Agartala: The opposition Congress and BJP's coalition partner TIPRA Motha have raised concerns regarding the modification of Kokborok language syllabus (tribal language) without incorporating Roman script.
The tribal community and political parties have remained split on the choice of script for Kokborok language throughout the years.
While some support Bengali script, most prefer Roman script, and recently a group has proposed Devanagari script. The govt has delegated this decision to the tribal community.
Reports indicate that the committee responsible for updating and restructuring Kokborok textbooks for Classes IX to XII has directed experts to exclude literary works in Roman script from the revised syllabus, causing significant unrest among tribal communities.
