Coimbatore: Few days after a body of man was found dumped at the under construction integrated bus terminal in Vellalore in the city, police on Tuesday identified the deceased as a 21-year-old college student and arrested four youths for his murder.
The deceased has been identified as Surya, who was studying at a university in Chennai.
The arrested youths have been identified as Karthi, 21, from Madurai district, and Madesh, 21, of Kinathukadavu, both college dropouts; Naren Karthick, 21, of Sundarapuram, a second-year student at a private college in the city; and Mohammed Rafi, 21, of Podanur, a bike taxi driver.
Police said Karthi's girlfriend often spoke to Surya on video calls and the former was irked over it. On Thursday night, Karthi and the other accused who were staying in a rental room at Postal Colony in Perur, invited Surya to consume liquor with them.
Later, Karthi and his friends injected Surya with drugs and smothered him to death using a pillow. They kept his body in the room till Friday night and later hired a rental car to dump the body at the bus terminal.
Police arrested the youths following a tip off and remanded them in judicial custody.
