Prayagraj: The Centre of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences (CBCS) at Allahabad University celebrated its 23rd foundation day on Friday. To commence the event proceedings, Head of CBCS, Prof. Bhoomika R. Kar, welcomed the dignitaries, including CBCS's founding head, Prof. Janak Pandey.

A brief report on the Centre's accomplishments and advancements over the past year was presented. Thereafter, Professor Tapan Kumar Gandhi from the Department of Electrical Engineering and the School of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at IIT Delhi delivered a special lecture on the convergence of brain science and artificial intelligence (AI) and its revolutionary potential to transform healthcare and AI in the coming years. He highlighted ongoing research in this field and emphasised the critical importance of developing an in-depth understanding of brain functions.

Gandhi also shared insights into his humanitarian-focused research, which has advanced fundamental science, provided societal benefits, and inspired the development of intelligent machines for future applications. Notably, he has worked on innovative devices to assist individuals paralysed by spinal injuries or other debilitating conditions. Additionally, he has contributed to Project Prakash—an initiative to restore sight to the blind—and to projects focused on autism spectrum disorders in India. He also interacted with all the enthusiastic Masters and PhD students at CBCS.

Muhasin Rashid, a CBCS alumnus currently working on establishing his startup, Gauge Labs in Bangalore, spoke on "From Academia to Industry: Navigating Expectations and Realities." His talk explored bridging the gap between academic and industry-oriented research.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by CBCS Assistant Professor Amrendra Pratap Singh.
