Prayagraj: In an unprecedented turnaround, as many as 44 criminals, listed as history-sheeters in cases of extortion, theft and burglary, walked into the Khuldabad, Kotwali and Shahganj police stations of the city on Sunday and pledged to abstain from criminal activities.
Talking an oath before the police officials, they said: "Hum log koi bhi aprah nahin kareinge, na hi kisi apradhi ka sahyog kareinge aur jo apradh karega, uski soochana thane mai deinge aur imandari se mehnat kar apna aur apne pariwar ka jeevan yapan kareinge" (We pledge neither to commit a crime nor support any criminal, and also assure to provide secret information to police on those involved in crime. We would work hard to earn our livelihood and take care of our family).
ACP (Kotwali) Manoj Kumar Singh told TOI, "On the directives of the UP director general of police, a fortnight drive has been launched across the state to check the current whereabouts of history-sheeters and their activities."
He added, "In this regard, 44 history-sheeters, including 21 listed with Khuldabad, 13 with Kotwali and 10 with Shahganj police station, arrived at the police stations on Sunday and pledged not to involve themselves in criminal activities in the future."
The ACP further said that these history-sheeters were asked to mark their attendance at the police station concerned whenever they are summoned. Police have also compiled the records of all the history-sheeters about their current activities. They were also encouraged to join the mainstream of society.
