Two Centuries In Five Years...That's A Concern: Ricky Ponting Takes Subtle Dig At Virat Kohli Ahead Of Border-Gavaskar Trophy

India recently suffered one of their biggest losses in history, when New Zealand became the first team to whitewash them in a three-match Test Series. Virat Kohli was heavily criticized for his poor run for form in the series, as he scored just 93 runs across the three Test matches. His form is definitely a concern as India head to take on reigning WTC champions Australia in Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in a five-match Test series beginning on November 22. Ahead of the series, legendary Australian captain Ricky Ponting took a subtle dig at the star Indian batter.

Ricky Ponting Takes Subtle Dig At Virat KohliIn an interaction with ICC, Rohit Sharma said that he saw a statistic where Virat Kohli scored just three hundreds in the last five years. He said that this is genuinely a concern as there is not another top order batter in the world currently who has scored so less amount of centuries in the last five years."I saw a stat the other day about Virat; it said he's only scored two (three) Test hundreds in the last five years. That didn't seem right to me, but if that is right, then that is, I mean, that's a concern. There wouldn't be anyone else probably even playing international cricket as a top-order batsman that's only scored two Test match hundreds in five years," Ponting said. He Will Turn Around In This Series: Ricky PontingIn spite of taking a subtle dig at Virat Kohki, Ricky Ponting said that he is one of the greats of the game, and has an enviable record in Australia. He said that he has no doubt that Kohli can regain his form in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.“I've said it before about Virat, you don't ever question the greats of the game,” said Ponting. “There's no doubt, he's a great of the game. He loves playing against Australia. In fact, I know he loves playing against Australia. And as I said, his record (in Australia) is very good. If there's a time for him to turn it around, it'd be this series. So I wouldn't be surprised to see Virat make runs in the first game," he added.
