New Delhi: High drama unfolded in South Delhi on Sunday evening as Delhi Police acted on intelligence reports warning of a threat to stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui. According to sources, the alert led to a swift and coordinated response at both the IGI indoor stadium and The Suryaa hotel. Faruqui, who was participating in the Entertainers Cricket League 2024 and staying at the hotel, was quickly moved to Mumbai for his safety. Meanwhile, police have launched an extensive investigation into the threat. The alert came to light when police interrogated suspects linked to a recent shooting incident in Greater Kailash-I, which resulted in the murder of businessman Nadir Shah. During questioning, these suspects revealed they had been instructed to scout The Suryaa hotel for a planned murder. However, they were initially unaware of the target. Later, their orders shifted to eliminate Shah, which they executed on Thursday night. It remains unclear whether Shah was intended to be the target at the hotel, and investigations are ongoing to determine his connection to the venue. As the investigation progressed, it became apparent that Faruqui was also a potential target. In response, police quickly formed two teams: one to secure the hotel and the other to monitor the IGI stadium, where Faruqui’s colleague, YouTuber Elvish Yadav, was competing against him, as per a report by TOI. The presence of numerous police officers at the stadium created chaos, with videos circulating on social media showing the evacuation of the venue. The entry gates were sealed, and footage of fans leaving the stadium was also shared online. Initially, the commotion was thought to be related to threats against Yadav. However, local police had limited details about the situation. At the same time, a team led by DCP Pratiksha Godara conducted a thorough inspection of The Suryaa hotel. They checked all entry and exit points and verified guest identities. Reports indicate that Faruqui was staying on the first floor of the hotel, which was also examined by the police. The situation remains under investigation as authorities continue to piece together the details of the threat and ensure the safety of all involved.
