IPL 2025: Ricky Ponting Set to be Appointed Head Coach of THIS Team After Parting Ways With Delhi Capitals

Ricky Ponting is likely to be announced as the head coach of Punjab Kings ahead of the IPL 2025 season after the Australian legend parted ways with Delhi Capitals. Ponting had been the coach of the Capitals since 2018, but the two parties decided to end their 7-year partnership earlier in 2024. Ponting is thus reportedly in talks with the Punjab Kings and could succeed Trevor Bayliss at the helm. PBKS have never won the IPL till date, they did however reach the final in 2014 after topping the league table but finished runners-up to Kolkata Knight Riders. PBKS have only made the playoffs once apart from the 2014 season and will be hoping that Ponting can help the side improve their performances. According to a report in Cricbuzz, Ponting is in talks with the PBKS management and could be appointed head coach of the Mohali-based franchise.The IPL 2025 season will be a crucial year for the Punjab Kings, who will also have to look for a new captain following the retirement of Shikhar Dhawan.Punjab Kings have had multiple coaches and plenty of chopping and changing in the past, Ponting will be their sixth head coach in seven seasons. With the upcoming IPL 2025 auction, Ponting will have a crucial call to make as the Aussie veteran and the management will sit down to decide which players to retain from the side that finished ninth last season. Harshal Patel, Shashank Singh, Arshdeep Singh, Ashutosh Sharma, Jitesh Sharma, and Rahul Chahar are some of their most promising Indian talents while the fate of overseas stars such as Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Johnny Bairstow and South Africa quick Kagiso Rabada remains up in the air. PBKS will have some crucial decisions to make in the upcoming weeks as they await BCCI's decision on how many retentions will be allowed per team. Earlier, it was reported that PBKS co-owned Ness Wadia had a heated argument with KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan on the number of retentions to be allowed per side, during the IPL onwers' meeting with BCCI in Mumbai.
