Al Nassr have announced manager Luis Castro has left the club. The decision came following the Saudi Arabian club’s poor start to the season. Al Nassr are currently seventh in the Saudi Pro League table and also lost the Saudi Super Cup final to Al Hilal. A statement from the club confirmed the development. “Al Nassr can announce that Head Coach Luis Castro has left the Club. “Everyone at Al Nassr would like to thank Luis and his staff for their dedicated work during the past 14 months, wishing them the best of luck for the future.” Castro became the third coach to depart Al Nassr since the blockbuster arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo. Former AS Roma manager Rudi Garcia was the first to be relieved of his duty and after that Dinko Jelicic had a brief stint with the club. Castro guided the club to the Arab Club Champions Cup last season but failed to replicate the magic in the Saudi Pro League as Al Hilal ran away with the title. Former AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli is in line to replace Castro at the helm of the club. Pioli led Milan to the Serie A title in the 2020-21 season and also has managed clubs with the likes of Inter Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina. Al Nassr haven’t tastes success in the Saudi Arabian top flight and the onus will be on Pioli to stamp the club’s authority should he accept the offer. AL Nassr played out a 1-1 draw with Al Shorta in their AFC Champions League Elita game. Cristiano Ronaldo was caught with a viral infection and didn’t travel with the team for the game. It remains to be seen if the club announces the new coach as sson as possible or take their time to find the perfect fit for the job.
