It might feel like summer only just ended, but we've officially entered the less than 100 days until Christmas zone. For many, the darker evenings and chillier temperatures might already mean the countdown to the festive season is on. And, right on cue, brands are starting to launch their Advent calendars-some of which are already selling out (like Holland & Barrett's £50 beauty calendar, which has flown off the shelves and is currently waiting to be restocked).
I've seen a fair few beauty advent calendars hitting the shelves, and tested a couple myself, but if skincare and makeup aren't really your thing, I've spotted another brilliant option. Yankee Candle has a calendar that is, as you might have guessed, great for lovers of home scents and cosy candle season.
Available at Boots for just £27, it's one of the most affordable speciality Advent calendars I've come across this year.
In true festive spirit, the Yankee Candle Advent Wreath Set depicts a seasonal scene of people at a ski resort decorating trees, skiing and heading up the mountain on a lift. You'll even spot Father Christmas himself hitting the slopes. The calendar, as the name suggests, also has a rounded shape in the style of a festive wreath. Like a classic Advent calendar, it hides 24 little surprises behind numbered doors. The doors aren't in order either, so there's a bit of daily searching involved, which feels nicely nostalgic.
As you might expect, behind each door is a Yankee Candle tea light in a seasonal scent. There are three each of: Christmas Cookie, Christmas Eve, Cinnamon Stick, Silver Sage and Pine, Black Cherry, Amber and Sandalwood, Wild Orchid, and Winter Night Stars. The calendar also includes a glass tea light holder to store your daily scent.
So far, it has great reviews from customers on the Boots website with a 4.8-star rating. One reviewer wrote: "I really can't wait until December so I can open my Advent calendar. The scents coming from it while unopened is really lovely, so I can only imagine what the individual candles will smell like."
Another added: "This is a great way to count down to Christmas with a Candle if you prefer their all-year-round scents. I do wish that there was a little bit more scent variety, though."
Personally, I agree. It does seem like you're opening the same thing each day, and I think it would be great to have a bit more variety. For example, having a larger candle on day 24 would be a lovely touch. It would also be nice if every single day had a different scent, just to keep things feeling fresh. Even a few different tea light holders, maybe one decorated for Christmas, could elevate the whole experience and add to your seasonal decor.
How much is it?
The calendar retails for £27 at Boots or £28.99 on the Yankee Candle website

That said, at £27, it's hard to argue with the value. Especially when you compare it to other candle and home fragrance advent calendars, which can cost over £100. The White Company's Advent calendar, for instance, is packed with home sprays, candles, and diffusers, but it'll set you back £195. The John Lewis Scented Candle Calendar, which includes a range of candle sizes and scents, is £120.
With that in mind, Yankee Candle's version offers a similar experience at a more purse-friendly price.
If you are after something a little more premium, though, Yankee Candle also has a bigger option: the Fragrance Lover's Book Advent Calendar for £49.99. This one includes 12 larger candles in their own glass votives, 12 tea lights, and a candle holder. It also has a wider variety of fragrances, which is great if you're looking for something a bit more special.
