After months of hinting that Ukraine might have to surrender territory to Russia for a ceasefire agreement to progress, President Donald Trump appears to have made a U-turn on the issue. He now suggests that Ukraine, backed by the European Union, could "WIN all of Ukraine back.
"After getting to know and fully understand the Ukraine/Russia Military and Economic situation and, after seeing the Economic trouble it is causing Russia, I think Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form.
"With time, patience, and the financial support of Europe and, in particular, NATO, the original Borders from where this War started are very much an option. Why not?" Trump posted on Truth Social Tuesday afternoon, shortly after addressing the U.N. General Assembly in New York City.
Trump's new stance comes after a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly. This is a stark contrast to the administration's position last month when Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
Prior to that meeting, Trump had suggested that Ukraine would need to relinquish territory occupied by Russian forces in Eastern Ukraine.
However, Trump stopped short of promising any additional direct military aid to Ukraine, seemingly shifting the burden of support onto the European Union and NATO, reports the Express US.

"Putin and Russia are in BIG Economic trouble, and this is the time for Ukraine to act. In any event, I wish both Countries well. We will continue to supply weapons to NATO for NATO to do what they want with them. Good luck to all!" Trump wrote.
Trump launched several attacks on Russia in his post, describing the nation as a "paper tiger" and suggesting it would have taken a "Real Military Power" less than a week to secure victory in the conflict.

He also highlighted the continuing sanctions imposed on Russia, arguing that when Russian citizens discover what "is really going on in the war," Ukraine will be positioned to reclaim its seized territories.
"When the people living in Moscow, and all of the Great Cities, Towns, and Districts all throughout Russia, find out what is really going on with this War, the fact that it's almost impossible for them to get Gasoline through the long lines that are being formed, and all of the other things that are taking place in their War Economy, where most of their money is being spent on fighting Ukraine, which has Great Spirit, and only getting better, Ukraine would be able to take back their Country in its original form and, who knows, maybe even go further than that!" Trump wrote.
The reinforced backing from Trump, should it remain steadfast, represents a significant victory for Zelensky, who has consistently pressed the American president to maintain pressure on Putin to conclude his devastating assault on Ukraine.
