A bakery chain hailed as being 'better than Greggs' is opening new stores across the country. There is nothing better than a humble Greggs sausage roll or comforting steak bake, however, it appears the fan favourite may have a new rival that is rapidly increasing in popularity.
Established in 1975, family-run Wenzels the Bakers quickly became popular among North West Londoners when it first opened. Over the years, it has expanded to over 100 locations-and it is not slowing down anytime soon. Now a household name, the bakery opened nine stores at the end of 2023 alone.

Synonymous with fresh bread and mouth-watering sweet treats, the bakery has even drawn the ultimate praise from one social media user, Karis Mullings, who said she thought it was "better than Greggs" because Wenzel's "make[s] fresh baguettes and sandwiches... on site".
Now the bakery has its eyes on expanding further with the bakery chain now teaming up with Southern Co-op to launch new stores around the UK.
The first of these new sites is planned for Guildford, Surrey which is set to open its doors on September 10 in Guildford, with a number of other chains expected to open after that.
Wenzel's said it can not currently confirm the exact number of stores that will open or where they will be located.
Speaking about the new partnership, Sarah Wenzel, CEO of Wenzel's, told Grocery Gazette: "We're delighted that Southern Co-op have chosen to be our franchise partner.
"Southern Co-op is a business that has consistently put the community first, and with this shared vision of offering high-quality food for all, we're in a strong position to bring delicious, freshly baked goods at accessible prices to even more customers across the UK."
Those heading down to a new Wenzel's branch are in for a refreshing treat, as the first 200 customers through the door will receive a free drink.
