F1 commentator David Croft has hit back on social media over accusations of bias at the Belgian Grand Prix. Oscar Piastri won at Spa from McLaren team-mate Lando Norris, as the British team continues to dominate in 2025.
The Australian now leads Norris by 16 points in the drivers' standings. Naturally, much of the Sky Sports coverage focused on the pair's tussle, especially over the closing laps. This appeared to irk some viewers, though, with Croft forced to defend the punditry of him and colleague Martin Brundle.
F1 fan @greg_bergin took aim at Croft on X, writing: "So any chance the commentary can be a little bit more diverse other than constantly focusing on British drivers. Sky provides a worldwide feed, and a little less of Lando Lando Lando would be nice for a change."
The 55-year-old responded in kind, though. Addressing the comment directly, he replied: "So what would you have preferred me to talk about yesterday?
"When the main story was about whether Oscar could make the one stop onto mediums work and win, or whether Lando could close the gap on the hard tyre and find a chance to win? Neither Martin nor I expressed a desire for Lando to win and were full of praise for Oscar. So what's your beef?"
The exchange continued with Croft told to "go back and listen" to the coverage. However, a number of users also weighed in to defend him and Sky, with @gussy57574430telling the Englishma "You do a great job."
The pair did finish on a respectful note, with Croft writing: "I always try and deliver the best commentary, trust me, but we can always learn in life, which is why I asked for your thoughts. Thanks for taking the time to reply."
Croft joined Sky Sports in December 2011 and has since become a renowned voice in F1. In 2019, he worked his 250th Grand Prix in Azerbaijan, having previously covered races for the BBC.
