Liverpool supporters' dreams that had finally agreed to a new contract have been dashed - at least for the time being. The ongoing standoff between the Reds and Salah - along with and Trent Alexander-Arnold - has been a constant during impressive debut season in charge, which looks set to conclude with the trophy.
Salah's exceptional form has played a significant role in outstanding season, but it could be his final one at Anfield, as his contract is due to expire this summer. A few fans were hopeful earlier this week that the 32-year-old might be on the verge of extending his time on Merseyside. A photo of Salah with a film crew at Albert Dock in the city went viral on social media. Some fans inferred that the sighting was related to his contract situation, but that wasn't the case.
reports that Salah was actually making an appearance for one of the club's commercial partners on Monday, ahead of the Merseyside derby against Everton. Meanwhile, negotiations between the player's agents and the club are still ongoing.
Salah, who has been consistently linked with a is arguably having his best season since joining from Roma in 2017. In 29 Premier League matches, he has netted 27 goals and provided 17 assists to steer his team towards the title.
Slot has conceded the scintillating form of his prized forward could bump up Salah's wage demands. Speaking in February, he said: "You can look at it in both ways. You can say the better he does the more expensive he might become and if he did really worse we would have second thoughts to extend his contract.
"For everyone, it is the best that he brings in the performances he does now. Maybe only for the one who has to pay him, it is not the best.
"For everyone else it is the best because if you want to play at this club, you need to be at his level. Otherwise, you are almost useless because we only need players that are at the top of their game. He needs to have these performances for him to play here and hopefully to extend here."
Following the derby win over the Toffees, Salah will be hoping to fire Liverpool another step closer to the title when they travel to Fulham on Sunday.
