Max Verstappen was given a telling-off by his dad after his stepdaughter copied his swearing. The three-time world champion isn't one to hold his tongue.
He's regularly making his feelings known on the team radio during race weekends, and they often include an expletive or two when things aren't going to plan for Red Bull. That's also the case when he's gaming at home.
But unlike on the track, that means his partner Kelly Piquet and her daughter Penelope are within earshot. opened up on a funny, albeit ill-advised, story during Viaplay's documentary Off the Beaten Track, which is now available in the UK.
He was travelling to the Las Vegas Grand Prix in a car with his father, who asked him about his love of the video game Call of Duty. "It's a release for me. I get to curse all I want," Verstappen admitted.
"But you know what's happening now? Grandma was visiting us in Monaco. She was in the kitchen with Penelope. Suddenly the cats start acting crazy and Penelope goes 'What the f***' are the cats doing?'. Grandma looked at her like 'What did you just say?'. She heard me say that, of course. 'What the f*** are the cats doing?'."
While Jos chuckled at the tale, he warned his son: "You need to watch your language around her." A sheepish Verstappen simply replied: "Yeah."

Verstappen began dating Kelly, the daughter of former F1 driver Nelson, in January 2021. She'd previously been in a relationship with former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat, with whom she had Penelope in July 2019.
The five-year-old is often seen popping up in the background of Verstappen's live streams when he's at home. She also regularly joins Kelly in the paddock to support him.
Verstappen has previously explained how there's no intention at all to replace Kvyat's part in her life. "I'm not the father, that's not the aim," he told TIME. "It's always very important that she has a good relationship with her own father, which she has. But I see her every day when I'm at home. We get on very well. She's very cute."
