was initially set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow in 6 to give a fond farewell to his much-loved swashbuckler.
However, the Hollywood star was dropped by Disney, who "baulked" at any suggestions of his return following his ex-wife's 2018 allegations of domestic abuse, which he strongly denies.
Having won his libel case against Amber Heard in 2022, the 61-year-old has been slowly returning to filmmaking with European movies Jeanne du Barry and Modì: Three Days on the Wing of Madness.
Now, the actor's latest comments on everything he's been through give fans hope that a Jack Sparrow return in a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie could really happen.
During his 2022 libel case, Depp clarified that he wouldn't work with Disney again on a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie even if offered hundreds of millions of dollars. Of course, time can heal, and by the sounds of it, that's exactly what the actor has been doing. He admits he doesn't hold grudges, thus giving hope he could return as Jack Sparrow.
Speaking with while promoting Modì, Depp said: "Honestly, I can sit here this very second and think about all the hit pieces, and how everybody was against me, and yeah yeah yeah he is off the map ... endless stuff. I can remember it all. Went through it all. Some of it was not the most beautiful time, some of it was hilarious. Some of it was mad. The thing is, it simply just was, and it simply just is. So, for me, it happened. I learned, man. Everything that we experience, whether you're given a snow cone or walking your dog, you learn something somewhere along the way. So I don't have any ill feelings toward anyone. I don't have this great reserve of hatred, because hatred requires caring. Why carry that baggage?"
Although Depp was asked about his previous comments he felt he didn't need Hollywood anymore. The star replied: "I had a few bouts with Hollywood over their particular easy way and the fluid three-act structure and all the stuff that is predictable. And I am sorry, but I had to get in there and whip it around a little bit..."
Modì: Three Days on the Wing of Madness directed by Johnny Depp premiered at the San Sebastain Film Festival last month and its UK release date is TBC.
