Former British No.1 John Lloyd has praised the "honesty" of Jack Draper - and insisted he will return to Wimbledon as a contender next year. "He is the real deal," said the BBC analyst.
World No.4 Draper was in a downbeat mood after losing in four sets to Marin Cilic and admitted: "I think there's a bit of a misconception that just because I'm a 6'4" lefty, I must be incredible on grass. I've still got a lot of areas that I need to improve in my game."
Draper, 23, will now take a few days off before heading before crossing the Atlantic for the US hardcourt season.
But ex-Davis Cup captain Lloyd said he will be back at his home Grand Slam a better player next year.
"I liked his press conference very much because I love honesty," said the former Australian Open finalist. "I thought he was very realistic. So many other people would have fobbed it off and said: 'I wasn't feeling great. I had a little twinge here,, the court, whatever'.
"He was very honest, and he could see that he's got a way to go yet on this surface. And he has. He's got a way to go on every surface. But he is the real deal. He's got to do certain things.
"He's got to get more bite on his backhand slice in particular. But I remember Rafael Nadal had the same sort of situation where he would float the slice. And that's what Jack does instead of knifing it. And there is too much spin on his forehand and the movement's different on grass. And he knows. He admitted at Queens that he was lucky to get to the semis. Who says that?
"Cilic played out of his mind, by the way. He played top 10 tennis, no doubt about it. He just played a much better player in Cilic. It wasn't like Jack went out and choked.
"I think next year he will be a threat. He is just not there yet, but he's coming. And I love his attitude. There are too many weapons in his game and he'll learn from this. He knows that the pressure is going to mount, as he is the British No.1 and No.4 in the world.
"But I believe he can deal with it. There's a hardness about him deep inside. I don't think there's any need to panic. I think he will win a Slam."
