As winter approaches in the UK, looking to brighten their homes with greenery and fragrance may find indoor jasmine to be the perfect addition.
Hardy and visually striking, can fill a room with its lovely scent throughout the colder months.
But to enjoy a full bloom indoors, there's a critical step to follow: trimming the plant's branches.
According to Andy, a gardening enthusiast and YouTuber from the popular channel, timely trimming of jasmine encourages prolific .
That amazing scent fills every room," he explained.
"If you have a White Star jasmine and want an abundant display indoors, this is the video for you."
Andy advises gardeners to start prepping their jasmine at the end of October.
"Trimming it back will stimulate more branches to grow," he said, adding that the increase in branching results in more flower spikes and a more abundant bloom.
Exposing the plant to cooler autumn nights can also help, as the drop in temperature signals the plant to produce more flower spikes.
"If you don't have a cooler room, keep it as far from a heat source as possible in a bright, indirect light location," he advised.
He also recommended a similar technique for extending the bloom of dahlias.
According to renowned horticulturist Monty Don, gardeners can squeeze one last bloom from dahlias by removing the heads of spent flowers throughout October.
"Keep deadheading, particularly for equatorial plants like dahlias, to extend their flowering season," Don advised.
With these simple steps, gardeners can bring the vibrant life of their garden indoors, even as the chill of winter sets in.
