Rapper-turned-podcaster Joe Budden has suggested that WNBA rookie Angel Reese could learn a thing or two from approach to fame.
In the 766th episode of his , Budden and his co-hosts discussed Reese's recent appearance on MTV's Wild 'N Out, hosted by Nick Cannon. When asked if he had seen her on the show, Budden quipped: "I've seen Angel Reese wildin' out, but I don't know if I saw her on Wild N' Out."
This set the stage for a critique of Reese's handling of her public image.
Budden suggested that Reese should step back from the limelight. "Angel Reese won't sit her a** down," he added.
Besides her appearances at fashion shows, the , and on TV, Reese has also given fans an insight into her life through her new podcast, "Unapologetically Angel," which she launched after undergoing season-ending wrist surgery.
While acknowledging that his comments might be interpreted as a man dictating a woman's actions, Budden preempted this by saying: "It's going to sound like I'm telling a woman what to do. But I ain't."
The discussion turned to Reese's impressive status as a 22-year-old with a following of over four million on Instagram and profitable sponsorship deals. However, Budden highlighted the need for careful management of her public image.
"She should probably have somebody in place to let her know. Whoever she got in her ear is telling her to go pop up everywhere. That's not what Caitlin Clark is doing," he said, contrasting Reese's approach with that of her college basketball counterpart.
Budden added: "Not to make it a race thing, but we're just on some star rookie s*** now. All season you put yourself in the same box as Caitlin Clark but it's more than basketball. I wish Angel Reese nothing but the best. Great season and rookie campaign."
While Clark may not run a podcast, the league's Rookie of the Year has kept herself visible since the Connecticut Sun knocked out the Indiana Fever in the WNBA Playoffs' first round. Clark was recently seen at an Indiana Pacers pre-season game with team-mate Kelsey Mitchell.
As some WNBA stars head overseas or play in the new Unrivaled League during the off-season, Clark is at the LPGA's Annika Invitational. She also enjoyed time in Mexico with her Fever colleagues, including Lexie Hull and her partner Connor McCaffery, during the WNBA's Olympic break in July.
While Clark has maintained a low profile about her personal life and views, choosing to concentrate on her sporting commitments rather than public discourse, Reese has chosen to embody the ethos of her podcast by being 'unapologetically' herself.
