The swearing-in ceremony of seven newly appointed Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) in Maharashtra is set to take place at Vidhan Bhavan today at noon. These appointments were made by the Governor, and Deputy Chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Neelam Gorhe, will administer the oath.

While the High Court is still deliberating on a case concerning the 12 vacant MLC posts also appointed by the Governor, the government has put forward seven names for the positions. The swearing-in of these seven individuals will proceed as planned today.

On Monday, the Maharashtra BJP core group concluded the first phase of its key meeting. Discussions centered around seat sharing for the upcoming assembly elections, specifically focusing on sitting MLAs. The meeting, which lasted about three hours, was held at the BJP headquarters and led by National President Jagat Prakash Nadda. Senior state leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and State President Chandrashekhar Bawankule, were present, alongside other prominent leaders from both the state and central leadership.

Maharashtra is set to go to the polls later this year, with the Election Commission expected to announce the official dates soon. The election will witness a significant contest between the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, which includes Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Congress, and the Maha Yuti Alliance, comprising BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction).
