Arvind Kejriwal Resigns as Delhi Chief Minister; Atishi Set to Succeed

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal officially resigned as Delhi's Chief Minister on Tuesday during a meeting with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. Atishi, a senior AAP leader and minister, was chosen by the party legislators to succeed Kejriwal and also met the Lt Governor to claim the position.

Kejriwal proposed Atishi's name during a meeting of the AAP legislature party, where it was unanimously approved by the party MLAs. Sources indicate that there will be no Deputy Chief Minister, and Atishi, representing the Kalkaji constituency, is expected to take the oath of office during a special Assembly session scheduled for September 26-27. Delhi Minister Gopal Rai commented on Atishi's appointment, stating, "The responsibility has been given to Atishi during challenging times. Agencies have been misused against AAP to destabilize the government, but AAP has successfully thwarted these attempts."

Rai highlighted that Atishi, who has been with AAP since its inception, faces two major tasks: serving the two crore residents of Delhi and countering the BJP's alleged conspiracies. Kejriwal's resignation announcement, made on September 15, followed his recent bail in a liquor policy case and has stirred significant political reactions in Delhi.
