Call drops and sluggish internet connectivity have become everyday frustrations for mobile users across the country. From dropped calls to poor network signals and slow data speeds, complaints keep surfacing on social media. Now, the government is preparing a concrete plan to address these issues.
DoT to Tighten Quality RulesThe Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is working on stricter rules related to the quality of telecom services. Telecom companies have been asked to share their views on the proposed framework. With the rapid expansion of telecom services, user complaints—especially regarding slow internet and call drops—have also multiplied, prompting the government to step in.
State-Wise Standards to be ImplementedUnder the new plan, service quality benchmarks will be defined separately for each state. Telecom operators will be required to adhere to these standards in all circumstances. This will help the government track service levels more effectively and identify problem areas.
Monthly Reporting Made MandatoryThe DoT has given telecom companies 15 days to provide their feedback. Acting on TRAI’s earlier recommendations, the new framework will require operators to submit monthly performance reports to the government. These reports will include state-wise data, helping authorities monitor call drops and internet speeds more transparently.
Based on these reports, the Telecom Department will issue directives to improve service quality. The move is expected to bring significant relief to consumers who have long suffered from unreliable mobile networks.
