Give ‘em Ell at Sandown. ELLARIA SAND (1.50) failed to fire earlier in the season but there were reasons for those below-par efforts. She didn’t seem to appreciate the 1m distance when well beaten in the German 1000 Guineas at Dusseldorf when last seen in May.
A slow start didn’t help her chances when down the field in the Fred Darling fillies’ Classic trial at Newbury on her previous start. Her trainer Ollie Sangster has, presumably, kept her away from the quick summer ground and she should find conditions much more to her liking today after some welcome rain hit the track on Thursday.

Her useful juvenile form last season, when she signed off with a Newbury Listed victory, gives her a great chance dropped into a handicap for the first time. Have 1pt each-way at 14-1. Sky Bet is paying out on five places.
Later on the card, BRIONI (3.00) will enjoy returning to Sandown. He showed a decent turn of pace to mow down Miss Justice when successful over this course and distance in June.
The runner-up went on to land her next two starts and there were other subsequent winners further back. Alan King’s hope has also been twice placed in races at this track and his wide stall shouldn’t be a problem given he likes to come from off the pace.

He was just starting to get involved in the competitive John Smith’s Cup at York last month when last seen. Unfortunately, he was squeezed out when trying to make ground between a couple of his rivals and he was always going to find it tough to get back into the race.
The softer ground won’t be a problem and he looks way overpriced at 22-1. Sky Bet are going five places.
WITCH HUNTER (3.15) looks the best bet of the day at Chester. It was only last year he came within a nose of winning the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes at Newbury for the second successive year.
This season hasn’t gone to plan but there have been reasons for those disappointing displays and he usually runs well around the tight turns of the world’s oldest track. He’s become very well handicapped and he’s got a decent draw in stall five. Have 1pt each-way at 14-1.
