Top cosy mysteries to watch before Richard Osman's The Thursday Murder Club

The Thursday Murder Club, based on Richard Osman's popular books, is set to hit Netflix soon alongside a number of other adaptations, much to the delight of fans. Although the film won't be available on Netflix until August 28, murder mystery enthusiasts have a plethora of other titles to enjoy in the meantime.

The Thursday Murder Club features Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie and Ben Kingsley as four amateur detectives trying to crack a murder case.

They live at Cooper's Chase, a retirement community where life is usually quiet, until a suspicious death occurs nearby. Here are some shows and films that fall into a similar genre.

The Madame Blanc Mysteries

This series began airing on Channel 5 in 2021 and has since released four seasons, offering viewers a perfect escape.

Sally Lindsay portrays Jean White, an antiques dealer and amateur detective living in Sainte Victoire in the south of France.

Each episode presents its own unique mystery, with several big-name guest stars including Paul O'Grady, Les Dennis and Tony Robinson.

7 Women and a Murder

When their family patriarch is stabbed, seven women, each harbouring ulterior motives, find themselves trapped together in a mansion, tasked with solving his murder.

The film features The White Lotus actress Sabrina Impacciatore.

Murder in Provence

The ITV mystery drama series is based on the Verlacque and Bonnet detective novels by M. L. Longworth.

First aired in 2022, the series features Roger Allam as Investigating Judge Antoine Verlacque.

Nancy Carroll also stars as Marine Bonnet, a criminal psychologist and Verlacque's love interest.

The series is set against the beautiful backdrop of Aix-en-Provence in the south of France, where it was filmed.

The three-part series can be viewed on ITVX.

The Perfect Couple

Airing on Netflix in 2024, this series boasts a star-studded cast including Nicole Kidman, Eve Hewson, and Dakota Fanning.

Hewson portrays Amelia Sacks, who is on the brink of marrying into one of Nantucket's wealthiest families - an island located in Massachusetts.

However, a shocking death throws the wedding off course and turns everyone into a suspect.

The six-part series can be streamed on Netflix.

Murder Mystery

Murder Mystery is a film starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston as a married couple who are caught up in a murder investigation on a billionaire's yacht.

While en route to Europe for their anniversary celebration, the couple meet billionaire Charles Cavendish (Luke Evans), who invites them to join him on his family yacht for a party.

When a distinguished guest on the boat is found with a fatal stab wound to his heart, they become suspects.

The film, which also has a sequel, can be streamed on Netflix.

The Thursday Murder Club will premiere in select cinemas on August 22, before being available on Netflix from August 28.
