His daughter, Rebecca Haze, confirmed that her father died from natural causes on Saturday, November 2, and assured that he left this peacefully.
The entertainment community is mourning the loss of Jonathan, with heartfelt tributes flooding social media. Filmmaker Elle Schneider paid homage to him online, stating: "Goodbye to my wonderful friend Jonathan Haze, who has stepped into the next set on our cosmic soundstage at the age of 95. His dry wit was one for the ages and I'm so grateful for the time we got to spend together over the years. I'm glad I'll be able to visit him in the movies."
Fans have also expressed their condolences and appreciation for Jonathan's work. On platform X, a fan shared: "Rest in peace, Jonathan; your contributions to the arts will live on."
Another added: "RIP to a great actor." A third admirer bid farewell with: "Farewell to Jonathan Haze, the original Seymour," alongside a clip of his iconic role. Reflecting on his legacy, another fan noted: "Just learned of the death of Jonathan Haze, the original Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors and a mainstay in the films of Roger Corman.", reports .
"Jonathan's movies were featured FIVE TIMES on Mystery Science Theater 3000, which must be some kind of a record. #RIPJonathanHaze." In a heartrending disclosure to Deadline, Jonathan's daughter Rebecca revealed that the veteran actor passed away at his home in sunny Los Angeles.
Commencing his foray into acting when discovered at a humble gas station, Jonathan was cast in the 1954 production of Monster From the Ocean Floor. This film marked the start of a fruitful collaboration with The Little Shop of Horrors' esteemed director, Roger Corman.
The dynamic pair advanced their partnership through the 1950s with titles such as The Fast and the Furious and Five Guns West. Jonathan's illustrious career tallied up a remarkable 41 screen appearances across five decades, expanding from cinema to include performances in successful TV series like 77 Sunset Strip and Dragnet.
His most celebrated portrayal was that of Seymour Krelboined in the iconic 1960 cinematic venture The Little Shop of Horrors, where his character was immortalised as "a scrawny runt, with a nose like a door-stopper and the gait of an ostrich."
Reflecting on this defining role during a fan meet in 2001, Jonathan divulged that he earned a modest $400, detailing the gruelling schedule: "All the interior scenes in the movie were done in two days, they were like 20-hour days, and then we went out on the streets and did three nights with a second unit, with a totally different crew. It was insane," he recounted with palpable emotion.
Leaving behind a legacy are his daughters Rebecca and DD Haze, his grandkids Andre Bryant, Rocco Haze, and Ruby Bryant, along with great-grandson Sonny Haze, who continue to cherish his memory.
